Ralph could never be considered a calm, quick-thinking, and cool-tempered—which is why Vanellope was sure that she had obtained the worst man for the job.

“Are you hurting? Do you want a blanket?! Are you thirsty?!”

She swatted at his hands as he messed with her bedding situation, “Ah, I’m fine! Quit worrying and get those bear-paws off of me!”

He squinted at her, “Your face is red! That could mean something bad!” He glared over at the green candy who was slumped at his post, eyes set on the wall glumly, “Your not even doing anything! You know more about this kind of thing than I do!”

The candy rolled his eyes over to Ralph and shrugged slowly.

Vanellope quickly protested, “I’m not gonna die! It’s just a little ache in my stomach, it’ll go away-” She winced and a small flicker shot up her body.

“See? See?! This isn’t good. Are you hot?”

She sighed deeply before admitting, “Just a little.”

Ralph shook his head, drumming his hands against his chin briefly, “I don’t want to do the wrong thing…” He Looked over at Sour Bill again for help.

A small snore answered his watch.

“Ugh…” He wrung his hands agitatedly, “Do you think I should take the blankets off, kiddo? Would that make you feel better, since your so hot?”

“Not with the way your acting, it wouldn’t.” She grunted, settling herself further down and giving him a sharp look.

“Hey, I’m just trying to help, ok? Now seriously, would it?” He reached down and grasped the edges of the blanket.

She flopped her head down on the pillow, “Oh, would you cut it out? I think your breath is making it worse!”

He was about to argue when a familiar voice cut him off, “Any way I could help a desperate mother out who has no idea what they’re doing?”

He reeled around to see Srgt. Calhoun standing in the doorway.

His face flushed, wondering how long she’d been standing there, observing his frivolous behavior, “Uhm, yeah.” He coughed shortly, “That would be nice.”

She marched up beside the bed, eyes scanning the small figure inhabiting it. Her mouth twisted into a tiny smile, “I think I know what to do.”

———————————

Whether it had been the cool suit, or the brilliance on the field of the subject, Vanellope’s temperature had gone down and she had drifted off into a sound sleep thanks to Srgt. Calhoun.

“Hey, shut the door, slick.”

Ralph shut it in the face of such a commanding tone, but turned to smile at the sergeant, “Thanks for that.”

“Eh, no problem. It was easy, really. After I cut it with the frantic displays and whatnot.”

“I get it.” He glanced back at the child’s door, “You think she’ll be ok through the night?”

“Not a doubt. Besides, she has that green thing to protect her.”

He eyed the drowsy candy, propped up against his lollipop, “I feel so assured.”

I'm kind of on a roll, I guess. :D
